According to Wikipedia, “art therapy is based on the belief that the creative process of art is both healing and life-enhancing.” PaintFests are forms of art therapy that bring patients, staff, families, community and volunteers together in a unique, interactive way; working together on paint-by-color, multiple canvas murals and ceiling tiles to add color and warmth to an often sterile hospital environment. PaintFests are a wonderful way to educate others as to the emotional needs of the hospitalized [patients] and to offer the community an opportunity to participate in humanizing the health care experience.
“We are extremely excited to be partnering with the Foundation for Hospital Art on this wonderful community-wide feel-good project. Our club is looking forward to their visit to Williamsburg.” says Tom Bowe, Williamsburg Rotary President.
“The traditional heritage of Williamsburg and our desire to be part of the American fabric makes the Williamsburg venue ideal for our mission to comfort people in hospitals through art.” says John Feight, Hospital Arts Founder.
Additional event sponsors include This Century Art Gallery and the Prime Outlets.
If you are interested in volunteering or sponsoring one or all of these events, visit http://www.williamsburgrotary.org under the Hospital Arts link. We encourage school and community groups to join us. No artistic experience necessary.
