The Williamsburg Paintfest has now taken a nation-wide scale. We are now donationing Historic Triangle murals to the National Park Service, Jamestown/Yorktown Foundation, the counties of James City & York and the City of Williamsburg on behalf of the Rotary Foundation. We are contacting several of these organizations about participation in Paintfest venues and their interest in receiving one of the sample murals for their locations; perhaps in their lobby or a community building.
Choose your venue by registering below:
Williamsburg Landing - September 24 @ 10:00 AM
Williamsburg Rotary - September 25 @ 3:00 PM with club dinner, awards & entertainment to follow
Sentara Hospital - September 26 @ 10:00 AM
Eastern State Hospital - September 26 @ 1:00 PM
Directions to Eastern State event:
Enter Eastern State Hospital grounds at the main entrance off of Ironbound Road. This is Galt Drive. Make a right at the first street (Asbury Lane). Make the first left (Minson Road) and the immediate right into the parking area for the Davis Building. The event is occurring in the Davis Building Gym.
We have enough funds for approximately 15 murals. We are in the final stages of planning the venues at Williamsburg Landing (September 24th), Eastern State (September 26th) and the College of William & Mary (September 26-27). The keynote PaintFest is scheduled for Thursday September 25th at 3:00 PM at the Williamsburg Lodge.
John Feight, Hospital Arts Founder, and his son, Scott, will be joining us on September 24th. We are planning a Paintfest for our club prior to that dinner presentation.
For planning purposes, one mural takes 12 people about 2 hours to complete. We are planning to have more people paint for 5-15 minutes each thereby letting more people involved in the experience. I would like to involve area grammar and high school art students in the experience. If you know who to contact in the area schools, please let me know.
I am also looking for in-kind sponsors for food, refreshments and small gifts for the participants and volunteers. Please let me know if you think someone in the area would be interested in the project.
More updates to follow. Please check out links below for more about the project. Thank you for your interest and support of this feel-good community project. I hope you are all having a wonderful summer.
