Rotary This Week – May 22 – Bruce Goodson hosts Tommy Norment – at the Lodge

Senator Tommy Norment will report on the recent legislative session in his annual pilgrimage to the club.  Always a lively session, Tommy will tell us which bills passed (and which ones passed but shouldn’t have).  And he will give us his take on the transportation situation.

Check his website:

http://www.senatornorment.com/about_tommy.htm

Rotary Next Week – May 29 – Mary McQueen – on Kosovo

Club member Mary McQueen is President and CEO of the National Center for State Courts located here in Williamsburg.  Mary travels to all corners of the globe in connection with her judicial work and spent has spent quite a lot of time over the past several years helping the new government in Kosovo set up a modern legal system.  Her program will be about Kosovo – then and now.

Club News – in case you have missed the last meeting or two.

Last week’s picnic turned out exceptionally well – special thanks to Don Pratt and Aromas for the hors d’oeuvres and Charles Brooks for handling the beer and wine.  And to Picnicus Emeritus Bill Skinner.  Check the photos on the website:  http://www.williamsburgrotary.org/PhotoAlbum.cfm

Most of you will remember John Merrick, the visiting Rotarian from Canberra, Australia, who attended the picnic with the Newport News friend he is visiting.  The back story is that the two families were next door neighbors in 1961-1962 when Lt. Col. Merrick was stationed at Ft. Eustis and they have remained friends for all those years.

The parking lot at the Lodge is being paved but should be complete by Thursday - unless the rain holds them up.  So, just in case, be prepared with a backup parking plan.  While the lot is out of service, the Lodge will offer parking in the employee lot across from the National Center for State Courts (on the other side of the Colonial Parkway from the Lodge) and will provide shuttles to and from the lot.  Or perhaps you have that secret spot in mind.

Don’t forget to bring the books you plan to donate to the kids in South Africa.  Or contact Frank Smith (Home 221-6639, Work 564-9067 or frank.smith@sphinx-financial.com  )
