Positively Williamsburg

Williamsburg Rotary to recognize community contributors

Williamsburg, VA, 21 October 2011:  The Williamsburg Rotary Club announces the winner of its second annual Positively Williamsburg initiative; a community reward and recognition program. Its purpose is to identify, acknowledge and reward regional activities that benefit everyone in our community, while sharing, recognizing and rewarding individual(s) and/or groups that make us proud to live here.

Positively Williamsburg congratulates Michele Mixer DeWitt as our 2011 award winner.  "We plan to honor Michele at an upcoming Rotary dinner meeting over the next few weeks."  says Bob Tubbs, Williamsburg Rotary President.  "We continue to be amazed by the energy and enthusiasm Michele demonstrates."  Tubbs continued.

"We wanted to extend the Rotary motto of Service above Self when we discussed setting up a positive community program" says President Bob Tubbs.  "Our membership is highly supportive and are donating prizes and services as prizes to acknowledge individual and organization's contributions.  We plan to annually recognize both the winner and the person who nominated them through our Positively Williamsburg Facebook and Williamsburg Rotary.com pages and at one of our Thursday evening dinner programs."  Tubbs concluded.

Last year's winners were David Everett & Adam Steely of the Blue Talon Restaurant.  They were the inaugural winners of the Positively Williamsburg project.  "David & Adam are very community minded, innovative community leaders who have sponsored many great and diverse events such as the 5K Turkey Trot, Arts, Music and Wine Festivals and the Sunday night outdoor movie series on Prince George Street.  Over the years, they have consistently shown what kind of impact a positive, proactive and participatory organization can have on a community.  We can all learn from their example." says Tubbs.  We also thank and acknowledge Shirley Vermillion who nominated them.

Every year, the Williamsburg Rotary Club will select one special story and that person/organization will receive free prizes ranging from an overnight stay, to dinner at an area restaurant, to massages, to shopping sprees, to free attractions tickets. The community can also vote for their favorite story using the "like" feature on our Positively Williamsburg Facebook page.  Our winners will be featured in the local media via press releases.  We will recognize them and the folks who nominated them at one of our regular Thursday evening dinner meetings.

To submit your candidate(s), go to our Positively Williamsburg Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Positively-Williamsburg/125300974183055, at the http://www.williamsburgrotary.com website or email your nominee to btubbs@cedarsbandb.com.  The more detailed information about their contributions, the better.
